This summer, Quantum re-entered the saltwater fishing market with two new series of spinning reels: the Strive and Benchmark. These reels have undergone extensive testing in Florida waters over a two-year period, ensuring their high performance for the demanding conditions that anglers face in the region.
The testing coincided with mid-June, as Quantum Sales Manager Gary Zeidman took to the ocean to showcase the capabilities of the soon-to-be-released Strive SV6000 reel. "I could find no apparent fault in the reel nor in Gary's casting stroke," noted one observer, emphasizing the seamless performance of the equipment. Zeidman was using the reel in conjunction with a 7-foot, 9-inch, 20-40 pound class Myth rod, another new Quantum product demonstrating high compatibility and reliability.

During this testing session, Zeidman found himself grappling with a magnum inlet snook, a powerful fish known to challenge even experienced anglers. Just as he was reeling in the snook, the situation intensified when a colossal goliath grouper, estimated at around 300 pounds, surged under the boat. "It left a huge boil in the water, like some kind of freakish tidal whorl," added Captain Alex Hughey, who was guiding the expedition from Merritt Island. Such an occurrence certainly wasn't ideal, hinting that it might be time to move to another location. However, it inadvertently tested the resilience of the Strive reel, as Zeidman casually tightened the drag knob, ready for the challenge.

"Losing snook to a goliath is a good signal to leave a spot," acknowledged Captain Hughey, indicating the common practice among anglers. Nonetheless, the unfolding drama revealed much about the straining capabilities of Quantum's gear. As Zeidman cranked down on the drag, the rod bent significantly, yet held steady throughout the skirmish. "The rod curved deeper and deeper into the butt section with each turn of the knob, but it didn’t bounce or pulse. It maintained a smooth arc as drag pressure increased," observed an onlooker who was keenly following the unfolding battle.

Aside from the Strive series, Quantum’s Benchmark gear is also making waves among local fishing enthusiasts, with staff members like Trey Wheeler taking advantage of their features. “I hooked up on a speed jig fished on a Quantum Benchmark 5000 combo and couldn’t believe the responsiveness it offered,” Wheeler shared, illustrating the effectiveness of this new option.
Looking Ahead
The event represents a significant milestone for Quantum as they make strides to establish themselves in a competitive market. With their emphasized focus on performance and reliability under strenuous conditions, both reel lines aim to cater specifically to Florida's diverse saltwater fishing landscape. The cooperative with the local angler community ensures ongoing feedback that can shape future advancements.
Looking Ahead
Finally, as Quantum gears up to officially launch these products into the market, the company is poised to make a resounding impact on the fishing industry. With such consistent feedback from anglers like Zeidman and Wheeler, it seems Quantum's future in saltwater fishing is not just promising; it’s built on a foundation of rigorous testing and proven capabilities.
