Sunshine Coast YouTube duo Phil and Andy are back on the water for 2026, and the season opener of their Phil and Andys Fishing Adventure series lays out the year ahead with a quick estuary session at one of Phil's favourite spots.
Posted on 12 May 2026 as a season trailer for the channel's returning subscribers, the video opens with Phil promising changes to the format. The music will be different, the editing will move on from 2025, and the year's content schedule is being reworked to keep the channel fresh.
Andy then steps in with the year's headline trips. The pair are heading out on a boat trip in roughly two weeks, with stops planned at Chambers Island and a possible push up the Maroochy River - slightly further south than their normal estuary range. The traditional spring tailor mission is locked in too.
"We'll obviously we'll try and get some tailor again because we had two great trips last year. One in Tin Can Bay and one up the beach, Teewah Beach I think it was. And so we'll try that again maybe in September."
The back half of the episode drops into a session at Dun Ethan, with the pair fishing the bridge they have nicknamed the Cod Hole. The structure has been a season-opener fixture for the channel for years, and 2026 follows the formula.
"Finally, after another good sessions of fishing this year, we've never had any. Rigs are looking up. We're early in the day. We just started. We bought one finally on board," Phil said.
The Cod Hole then earned its name on the third cast under the bridge, with a small cod hitting the deck. "Look at that. It's a little cod. And that's why they call it the cod hole," Phil said, holding the fish up briefly for the camera before sending it back.
A second bream followed and the day's keeper came right at the end of the session - a flathead from under the same bridge that the pair were happy to take home.
"Mr Flatty. We're doing well again. We got flathead to finish off again in the cod hole. So the Cod Hole bridge has been the winner today by miles," Phil said.
The fish measured a clean 42 centimetres, a respectable size from a session that had cost the pair the odd lost hook and sinker along the way. Andy's sign-off, delivered in the unmistakably plain-spoken voice that has run through every episode since the channel started, summed the day up.
"We had one good one. So we're having a much better day today catching fish wise, but we're still after the bigger ones, but it's still a little improvement what we're getting. Better than not getting anything at all."
For anyone planning a Sunshine Coast trip across the back half of 2026, the takeaway is the calendar. Phil and Andy will be on the boat in late May with Chambers Island and the Maroochy River on the schedule, then on Teewah Beach in September for spring tailor. Dun Ethan's Cod Hole, as ever, has already kicked the year off.
