The 52nd Annual White Marlin Open, recognized as the world's largest billfishing tournament, wrapped up yesterday in Ocean City, Maryland, showcasing an extraordinary level of competition among top anglers. This year’s event highlighted impressive catches across various fishing divisions, including White Marlin, Blue Marlin, Tuna, Wahoo, and Dolphin, ultimately leading to substantial payouts.
In the highly competitive White Marlin division, Dan Gough from Ocean City, Maryland, made headlines with a remarkable catch weighing 72 pounds aboard the vessel Billfisher. "It’s an incredible feeling to win at such a prestigious tournament," said Gough, expressing his excitement after landing the biggest fish of the division.
Following closely was Trey "Cricket" McMillan on Michael Jordan’s boat, Catch 23, who brought in a 71-pound white marlin. McMillan shared his experience, stating, "Competing at this level is always a thrill, and just being part of this tournament is a win in itself."
Turning to the Blue Marlin division, Drew Osmeyer from Timonium, Maryland, distinguished himself with an astonishing catch weighing 929.5 pounds aboard the boat Barbara B, a record that set the tone for the competition. Osmeyer reflected on the challenge, stating, "Catching a fish like that is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. It’s what we come here for."
The Tuna division also saw impressive catches, led by Jonathan Cianciulli from Cape May, New Jersey, with a 188-pound tuna on his boat, Sea Hab. Alex Eason from Cordova, Maryland, followed closely behind with a notable 186.5-pound catch aboard the Shorebilly. Each angler expressed the thrill that comes from competing at such a high level.
In the Wahoo division, Chris Jones from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, secured first place with a 49.5-pound catch aboard SHOOTING STAR. Meanwhile, the Dolphin division featured Andrew Schreiber from Essex, Maryland, winning with a 32.5-pound catch, followed by Rusty Shriver and Angelo Ponte with catches of 27 pounds and 26.5 pounds respectively.

Rob Wagner, aboard Taylor Jean, led the points leaderboard with a total of 595 points, while his boat amassed 1,085 points, securing first among the vessels. The event was also integral for the InTheBite Captain of the Year Cup East Coast Division, recognizing standout captains. Capt. Blaine Birch led the White Marlin Release Division with 500 points, reiterating the competitive spirit that defines this tournament.
